Pirouette

All my friends are creeping into that stage of moving on from snowed in, lazy nights and pushing forward into spring. Every year, the sun in our face is an excuse to get off the couch again and start walking around mountains for no reason. Pirouette is the perfect soundtrack for this time of year. The song "Kiss and Tell" shows the more sensitive side of the band with the lyrics, "there's nowhere i'd rather be than glued to you." The band still kicks it with a fun side as evident in "CJ Rough Wreath" in which they start off the song by singing, "300 is a movie, that's what he bowls from time to time!" There is a certain beautiful rawness in all their songs that lets you know they weren't trying to mask anything, just spitting how they really feel. There are three dudes and one girl, apparently Amanda only sings but you will hear way less of her on the second album. Their last myspace blog says their not really playing together anymore which is a total bummer; but they threw up all of their music and their other musical projects' music on there too (Spit on a Stranger). And dontcha know bassist, Brendan Graham, also plays guitar and sings in Everyone Everywhere and the Drummer, Brendan McHugh, also drums in Everyone Everywhere. DOUBLE BRENDAN, DOUBLE BAND, DOUBLE WAMMY! I hope this music makes you feel as good as it made me feel. noodley, Philadelphia chantdriven, indiemo goodness.

A Voice Like Rhetoric

Strange how refreshing it is to listen to music that is difficult to describe. I will rack my brain anyway to try and find a few words. A Voice Like Rhetoric is a half Ohioan/half Pennsylvanian quartert of rock and roll mathematicians. There are parts of this album that I feel draw attention from a wide range of listeners. Even some of the individual songs seem to dose out large portions of gutsy sections alongside melody driven fragments. The style is far but overplayed. You kind of go into the album assuming a certain similarity between all the songs. There is an immense amount of content and I find myself struck by new parts every time I listen to the songs through. I also give these dudes props for taking the opportunity to spread awareness about social issues as musicians. I'm digging the music and I hope that some of you can enjoy it as well as the entertaining song names.

I am excited to post my first of many rap albums to come. Felt is a hip-hop group comprised of Minneapolis rapper Slug (Sean Daley) of Atmosphere and L.A. rapper MURS (Nick Carter) of Living Legends. The two teamed up after doing a tour together and considering the prospect of courting various celebrities. Both of this artists need little introduction and their lyrics pack a punch; give it a listen and relax your earholes.

This is the first album by felt and is dedicated solely to actress Christina Ricci. The dedication was part of a wager between the two MC's of who could sleep with her first. Both remain unsuccessful. This entire album is produced by The Grouch of Living Legends and includes scratches by Mr. Dibbs.

Round 2, the duo attempts to win the heart of former Cosby Show star Lisa Bonet. This album is produced by Ant, Slug's DJ in Atmosphere.

The latest. This album is produced by rapper atmosphere who is also on Definitive Jux Records with MURS. Slug, MURS, and Aesop went through a laundry list of ladies to dedicate this album too but finally settled on Rosie Perez.

Laurel consists of Alan (guitar/lead vocals) from Cotton Candy Collective along with Dan (drums) and Sam (guitar/vocals) from the late Magic Missle. I was quite sad to see Magic Missle, but if I do say so myself, Laurel definitely does justice. Just a couple fun dudes making some fun music about chillin and girlies. The music is upbeat, choppy, and damn catchy. I am especially fond of the song "Pocahontas, Honest", just try and not sing along. I haven't seen these guys yet, but Dan and Sam are damn good friends so I'm sure they will peeped soon. Download the EP and come chill with them, they are playing a few shows around the Baltimore area on the soon.

Back from the GRAVE, walking dead I suppose. Dylan here with a post after sleeping for 8 months. I hope that you all can accept my apology. Today I bring you a genuine pop punk band out of Bay Area Cali by the name of The Story So Far. They have been dominating my speakers for the past two weeks; so I thought, why not share the goodness? Be careful google searching their name, there's a good chance you'll click upon a fashionxcore band from the UK or lyrics to a New Found Glory song. These dudes are far from running on appearances and far from hating on others, something I've noticed a lot of in the pop punk scene lately. I mentioned in the Title Fight post that the line between hardcore and pop punk has been severely clouded in the past couple years. This music is so straight forward. No melodrama, no forced breakdowns; just playing jams and singing about life. Strong and precise melodies are backed by cutting chunky guitar lines along with thudding bass and drums. A lot of the lyrical content is true to being a teenager: kicking it with good friends, dealing with the stress of girls, trying not to sell yourself out. Good Stuff. I have been communicating with these guys about playing a couple shows when my band goes on tour this summer. They seem like really nice dudes and I am excited to get a chance to experience their live show. Check out the video at the bottom to get an idea of the energy these guys are pushing. The coolest part is I think some of them are still in high school; so they've got a lot of tracks to put behind them still. Enough of my opinion; check it for yourself!!

Hello Blog World! I return to you after almost two months of no posts. Yes I must admit that I have been struggling between lazy times, motivated times, and busy times. But I am here today with a band whose music represents the fast-paced chaos that is now my life. Wolf Whistle is a young and angry trash-thrash four-piece from New Bedford, Massachutsets. If you're like me, you don't really care if a band's songs all sound the same, as long as they're less than a minute long.

These two albums combined are about 10 minutes long, so if you don't like it.....well....you only really lost ten minutes of your life. And as much as I'd like to forget about it; I've already lost at least 40 minutes of my life at an Akon concert. Prepare for fast blast beats with breaks into slow sludgy breakdowns. There is an amount of anguish that can be sensed in the singers voice that just makes you want to scream yourself. So if you're feeling a little angry, let out a healthy 10-minutes of rage to these two albums.

Mountain Asleep is a quartet from Louisville, Kentucky. My last post was a video of these guys and they just blow me away. I can tell these guys are all their pictures depict scenes of rambunctious antics with friends. Hello, Anxious is definitely a throw off the usual playlist. Mountain asleep is pulling emotion right from the heart into endless squalls and raw crunching guitar lines. The songs are short and, ironically enough, make me feel anxious. It's a good anxious, each song leads into a separate path of fast-paced feeling. This is good motivation music to make it through those last couple weeks of the spring semester! Pop this album in your car stereo or ipod on the way to school or work and I promise you'll feel at least a little better about the future ahead of you. I'm quite sad I will be on tour with The Lost Tourists when they come to Baltimore :( Grab your dancing shoes and prepare to sing-along...Mountain Asleep is coming to a city near you!!! shit, they're touring with Algernon Cadwallader too! Awesome!

Hello internet music-fiends. I have come to you baring before me a mischievious cast of indiemo-rockers from Philly . Prepare to get down to some relaxed pop punk that keeps your mind on getting away and not the one that got away. These guys spit the real shit but they still pump out positive lines about summer bike rides, pool parties, and having fun with friends. This is the kind of music that pulls you through the winter and reminds you of why summer is such a blast.

Everyone Everywhere are some really nice fellows, Lost Tourists got a chance to hang out with them when we played a show together at Charm City Art Space a few months back. I've attended many a show at charm city and they are one of the best bands i've seen play there. I don't want to spoil this entry....I've been listening to these guys for a while and it's just pure fun, so take a listen and tell them what you think. These are some genuine guys, out to make music and enjoy the experience. I'm sure they'd want you to listen along and help out anyway you can :) (buy merch and hang at a show!)

Here I sit on my computer at 1 am on a Monday morning while procrastinating and not studying for my mid-term as the "whoa's" of Spraynard massage my post-weekend-apocolypse-melted brain. Earlier I was drafting some posts and realized that the all the albums I have posted thus far are from bands coming out of Pennsylvania. I have spent many random weekends of my life roaming the cracking cop-less roads with my band, meeting and watching bands, sleeping in cramped areas, and making new friends. During class my mind wonders into visions of bike rides on sunny days in Philidelphia this spring/summer.

Spraynard (yes, that's a Tim and Eric Awesome Show reference) is a trio of dudes that formed from the remains of The Domino Theory. Pat(Guitar/Vocals), Mark(Bass), and Dos(Drums/Vocals) are three of the most pleasant characters I have ever been around. It isn't difficult to find friends in those who extract all their positive energy during live performances. I always feel a connection with those who express themselves as willingly to a hometown crowd as a room full of strangers.

My band has known these guys since The Domino Theory days, but we have just recently been exchanging house shows with them since they formed Spraynard. Spraynard plays energetic sing-along pop-punk that encourages everyone to join in on the fun. All of the guys work together at an arcade called Grand Slam USA. They gave us free tokens for airhocket and my sister, Zoe, whooped my ass. Krasner, Zoe, and I layed down a brutal laser tag assault on a group of young girls while Mark blasted Latterman jams in the dimly lit arena. We also got to play blacklit-neon pirate mini golf.

After playtime; we played with Spraynard, Danny J, and Factors of Four at The Creep House where Pat and Dos live. The basement of The Creep House is where their roommate runs Creep Records. They've recorded a handful of punk rock bands like Danger O's and Kill Your Idols (R.I.P.). The whole night was full of more fun times: vegan food, sweaty basement love, and video game tournaments.

Title Fight continues to serve pure and fierce pop punk to a scene that becomes more shallow by the day. I saw these guys the other night, and it was truly what I needed. I say what "I" needed because there are many who might not release inner tension at sweaty sausage festivals. Title Fight is currently on tour with Fireworks, This Time Next Year, and A Loss For Words. The first stop on the tour came to one of my favorite DIY baltimore spaces, Charm City Art Space. Boy was that room moving. Dog piles with a 6 foot cieling aren't too safe, then again neither is pushing a clearing in a room already filled over safe capacity. It's strange how the pop punk scene has blended in so deeply with the hardcore scene. You see dudes going as buckwild at set your goals concert as you would at a madball concert(Check out the video below to see first hand what I'm talking about). Title Fight embodies what I see as pure pop punk because their music is actually punk rock as fuck with catchy vocal harmonies that give it a tinsy bit of pop feel. I surf myspace music daily only to find a slurry of pop bands that use distorted guitars as an excuse to call themselves pop punk. Anyways, I will not continue to rant. I will just let you know that title fight's grimey melodramatic lyrics and raw guitar riffs will keep your head boppin (or headbangin'). Give it a listen! This band really makes my heart melt, I mean really REALLY always puts me in a good mood. Slingshot Dakota is comprised of Tom Patterson on drums and Carly Comando on Keyboards. Now don't think that just because this is a two piece you won't get your soul rocked, these two really pack a punch. I heard of this band through my friends at Chug Life who saw them play at Street Smart Cyclist's last show ever. (One show I will regret missing "until the day I die") Ever since, my sister and I have had these songs stuck in our brains, jamming out none stop. Tom's tight punchy drums perfectly accent some of the fullest punk rock keyboard I've ever heard. Expect to hear jams about friendship and love and being on tour. If you don't like friendship or love, you're probably acquiring music and art at the wrong blog. These dudes will be on tour all summer, so catch them at a cool DIY place near you! My band and the chug life dude's band is actually playing with them April 2nd at my bassist's house for my sister's 21st birthday. It's a thursday, if you live in the maryland area please come have fun times with us!!!

Who comes to mind when you think of great stencil artists? Banksy? Maybe Blek le Rat? Even the strong political undertones can't hold shit on the detail and color coordination of c215. c215 is a stencil artist from Paris that I've had my eye on for a while now. Some might call him the, "Picasso of Graffiti," but I would like to think of him more as the, "Escher of Stenciling." 215 has a style of cutting that cannot be matched. The persistence of stencils he keeps up on walls around the world let's you know that he's been perfecting his style for a long time....So don't plan on copping this kind of skill any time soon.

Where most stencel artists cut out as much space as they can to fill in with solid color, c215 fills his pieces with connecting lines. I was amazed when I first saw this style of stencil (and he's the only one I know who does it). He uses these connecting lines to create contour and intense detail within each piece. This tailoring of the stencil allows for fascinating 3D perspectives and beautiful color over lays. His color combos are some of the most comforting I've seen in the stencil world. Usually he sticks to just warm or just cold, but when he combines them it works out perfectly. a light blue with a subtle yellow pattern stencil over it. Shit is pure dime!

C215 posts up in some very interesting spots. Of course he has rocked urban street art all the way from France to the UK to even some spots in the states, but this guy has made his way to getting up in the third world. He throws stencils up on the sides of homes and businesses in the slums, something I would like to call beautifying. But not beautifying in an exploitative way, beautifying in a way that focuses on the people of the area and captures the essence of their way of life. Check out JR-art, this guy had a similar project called FACE2FACE among many others where he took a picture of a Palestinian and an Israeli doing the same job and pasted them face to face. (expect a post about this dude soon) As you can tell from the pictures, the locals are down.

Look out for this guy! Who knows, maybe he'll be getting props like banksy soon, but I don't think that's what he wants. Check out the video below, he has a very intimate style of spraying the stencil. Check out his myspace. Check out his crew's website. Check out his flickr.

Danny J is one of those dudes that makes you feel like an old friend when you meet him for the first time. I met him when my band, The Lost Tourists, played with our friends Spraynard at the creep house. His music has a similar way of easing you in and mellowing you out. This whole group of West Chester area PA kids have a way of making anyone feel at home and I'm glad that we were able to meet them. I suggest Danny J for people who dig chill bluesy folk acoustic that you can zone out to. I hate making comparisons, but I suppose you would dig them if you also like Austin Lucas, Johnny Cash, and Owen. Prepare to have your soul soothed by Danny's smooth licks and quick lips.
